The International Cadet Tournament “Ciutat d’Esplugues” has been organized by the club since the existence of the previous entity. In 2008, after the foundation of Basket Esplugues it has continued to be done, becoming international and acquiring great prestige.

It is a cadet tournament of top-level preferential teams of which 23 editions have already been held and which has the support of the City Council of Esplugues de Llobregat.

Together with the Men’s Cadet Tournament, in recent editions we have sought equality for our players by doing a U17 Junior women’s tournament in parallel.

The 2023 edition was held from 27 to 29 December 2023 at CEM Les Moreres (Plaça de les Moreres s/n 08950, Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona).

For 2023 we wanted to be even more ambitious, and equate the women’s tournament with the men’s, expanding the number of teams competing to 8, making it also increase to three days of competition. The competitive level of the participating teams was also increased

The women’s tournament was held in parallel with the men’s tournament, and alternating the courts (blue and yellow of the CEM Les Moreres) also with the men’s tournament, thus making the public enjoy basketball indistinctly, regardless of the gender of the players.

The regulations governing the tournament are the ACB rules with referees, timekeepers and scorers appointed by the Catalan College of Referees.

The commission of the men’s and women’s tournament was made up of a specific part of directors, technical coordinator, and the heads of the sports department of the City Council.

The management was done jointly to try to find synergies, in terms of logistical issues, sponsorships, etc…

In addition to the competitive activities, sporting values will be highlighted, with the following prizes being awarded:

• Best local player
• Best player of the tournament
• MVP Final
• Fair play
• Tournament standings (1st to 3rd)
• 5 Ideal tournament (5 trophies)

The participating teams were:

• Ukraine women’s national team (winner of this edition)
• UCAM Murcia
• UE Mataró
• Sant Fruitós Sports Association (ASFE)
• Basket Almeda
• Youth Basketball Club
• Basketball Esplugues

As in previous editions, great participation and quality was achieved.

The participating teams filled the Esplugue’s courts with their great game, and provided the tournament with a high sporting level.

It is important to note that the tournament had the collaboration of numerous entities from Esplugues that made it possible:

• Esplugues City Council, Nautalia viatges, Nestlè, Hostal Lami, La Fábrica Restaurant, TV Esplugues, Autocars Tena, Florenci Gisbert Lemonche (MAPFRE Broker).

We also consider that the visibility of our club in the Tournament can serve as a focus of attraction for new players (who already play and/or new ones who have never played) to this sport and to our club, which should help us to equalize the number of women’s teams with the men’s teams as much as possible.

The Women’s Tournament must also serve to strengthen relations between the clubs that are committed to the development of women’s basketball around us, as it helps to promote the women’s branch of this sport.

The solidarity component of the tournament has helped us to strengthen relations with the Catalan Basketball Federation, and the continuity and relevance of this tournament should allow us to strengthen the collaboration between the two entities.

And this relevance is also manifested in the collaboration of all the Espluguina entities that have repeated their collaboration.
